Preparing Your HVAC System for Hurricane Season

Hurricane season runs June through November in South Florida, and your outdoor AC unit is vulnerable to wind, debris, and power surges. A little preparation goes a long way.
Before the storm
Schedule a pre-season tune-up so your system is in top shape.
Secure or store loose items around your outdoor unit that could become projectiles.
Consider a hurricane strap or tie-down for your condenser.
Install a surge protector to protect against power spikes.
Turn off the AC at the breaker when a storm is imminent to avoid damage from power fluctuations.
After the storm
Inspect the outdoor unit for debris, damage, or flooding before turning it back on. If the unit was submerged or struck by debris, don't run it — call us for an inspection. Running a damaged system can cause costly compressor failure.
